Lead is the first uncommon resource that stops your early-game crafting dead in Subnautica 2. Unlike Titanium or Copper, it doesn’t spawn in the Safe Shallows — and the ocean won’t point you toward it.
You’ll need it for the Sonic Resonator to break larger mineral deposits, and later for Germanium Ingots and high-tier meals. Finding it means heading into deeper, more dangerous water.

Primary lead locations on Proteus
The richest early source is the Cicada Wreck, also called the Lander Garage. Head northeast from the Lifepod, bearing roughly 75 degrees, for about 370 meters. The wreck sits at a depth of 60 meters, loaded with both small and large Lead nodes.
A second spot is a ravine near the Colony Platform. Look for a blue natural current flowing below you and a small research table; the ravine holds Lead and a Tadpole fragment.
Once you advance the main story, Lead becomes plentiful around the Alien Ruins over 1,000 meters east of the Lifepod, in deeper waters.
How to identify and harvest lead
Lead appears as chunky rectangular clusters with a distinct purple hue, unlike Titanium’s gunmetal gray geometry. In dim light, look for square protrusions jutting from the rock face.
Small Lead nodes can be grabbed by hand. Large nodes require a Sonic Resonator to break apart. Grab two small pieces of Lead first so you can craft your own Sonic Resonator before tackling the big deposits.
How to farm lead without drowning or becoming lunch
Build a Scanner Station at least 100 meters northeast of your Lifepod. The station’s 300-meter scan radius will then cover the Cicada Wreck, letting you track every Lead node in the area.
The gorges are patrolled by Marrowbreather predators. Carry Distraction Flares and equip Basic Fins plus a Wakemaker for mobility. Watch for Oxygen Tunics — those blue plants that spit bubbles — or Oxygen Geysers to keep your tank topped off.
