Subnautica 2: how to build and use the scanner station for resource tracking

Stop swimming in circles. The Scanner Station highlights every ore, wreck, and anomaly within a 600-meter sphere around your base.

Ever spent hours swimming in circles on Proteus chasing Copper and Lead? The Scanner Station in Subnautica 2 turns that grind into a pinpoint operation, highlighting every ore node, wreck, and anomaly within a 600-meter sphere around your base.

Once built, you select a resource from its hologram and a HUD waypoint guides you straight there — no more oxygen wasted on dead ends.

In this guide we’ll cover how to unlock the blueprint, the crafting recipe, how to operate the hologram interface, what targets you can track, and where to place the station for the best returns.

Unlocking the blueprint

Unlocking the blueprint

You need to scan a Scanner Station Fragment with the Scanner tool. Two primary sites consistently hold fragments:

  • Camp One: roughly 240 meters northeast of the Lifepod (compass heading 60). The fragment sits attached to the floor inside a vertical corridor tilted at an 80-degree angle.
  • Old Habitat: 375 meters north of the Lifepod.

Once scanned, the blueprint synthesizes and the module becomes buildable at any powered base.

Construction requirements

Construction requirements

After obtaining the blueprint, build the Scanner Station with the Habitat Builder while inside a powered base.

The recipe is:
3x Titanium
1x System Chip
1x Wiring Kit

Craft the components at the Fabricator:
Wiring Kit: 1x Silver + 1x Copper
System Chip: 1x Wiring Kit + 1x Quartz

Make sure your base has enough power before placing the station — it will stop working if the energy reserve dips too low.

How the Scanner Station works

How the Scanner Station works

The station scans a 300-meter radius from its position, creating a 600-meter wide sphere of influence.

It draws 10 energy per second while active. If your base’s total power output falls below consumption, the module ceases tracking until power is restored.

To operate it, interact with the Scanner Station podium. A 3D hologram of available nodes appears above the station. Select a resource type, then click an orb in the hologram — this generates a HUD waypoint leading directly to that deposit.

The Scanner Station can only track one resource at a time. Selecting a new resource instantly clears all previous waypoints.

What you can track

What you can track

The station pinpoints several categories within its scan range:

  • Ores: Lead, Silver, Copper, Titanium
  • Wrecks: Cicada Wrecks such as the Lander Garage or Empty Hold
  • Infrastructures: Alterra Bases and abandoned colony structures
  • Biological Anomalies: Bloom Infestations and other Anomalies

For advanced exploration, it also highlights rare materials like Celestine and Conduit Crystals when built in the right location.

Where to place it

Where to place it

Placement determines which resources fall inside the 300-meter sphere.

For early game Lead farming near the Cicada Wreck (Lander Garage), build a base at least 100 meters northeast of the starting Lifepod. That puts the deposits comfortably inside the scan range.

For rare minerals like Celestine and Conduit Crystals, build a new Scanner Station close to the Alien Ruins. The station will then ping those high-value nodes on your HUD with the same click-and-track flow.

Once your Scanner Station is feeding you Silver and Copper on demand, the next step is crafting depth modules and pushing into the deeper biomes.
