Slay the Spire 2: how to get the Seal of Gold and manage its gold drain

Managing the Seal of Gold’s gold drain is what separates a free win from a gold-starved disaster.
The Seal of Gold is one of the most polarizing Ancient Relics in Slay the Spire 2. It gives you a steady stream of extra Energy, but it drains your wallet every single turn for the rest of the run.
Managing that trade-off is what separates a free win from a gold-starved disaster. You need to know when the relic is worth it and how to build around it.
In this guide we’ll break down how to get the Seal of Gold, how its mechanics actually work, and the exact Gold buffer you need to make it pay off.
How to obtain Seal of Gold

You get the Seal of Gold exclusively from the Ancient Tezcatara event at the start of Act 2. It’s a restricted reward — you cannot find it in chests or shops.
Tezcatara offers you one relic from a limited pool. In the current beta branch, Seal of Gold shares that pool with the Golden Compass, Pumpkin Candle, and Toy Box. Only one of those four appears per run.

Seal of Gold mechanics

The effect is automatic and mandatory. At the start of your turn, the game spends 5 Gold to generate 1 extra Energy. You have no say in the matter — if you have the funds, you get the energy and lose the gold.
If your Gold drops below 5, the effect simply does not trigger. You keep whatever Gold you have left, but you get no Energy boost that turn. The drain never stops for the rest of the game.
Is Seal of Gold worth it?

Seal of Gold sits in the middle of Tezcatara’s relic hierarchy. Storybook is clearly better, and Biiig Hug, Yummy Cookie, and Golden Compass are generally stronger picks. That said, Seal of Gold is drastically more useful than bottom-tier relics like Toasty Mittens or Toy Box.
Compared to Pumpkin Candle, Seal of Gold is more reliable. The Candle only worked during Act 2 or required kindling at Rest Sites to stay active. The Seal asks for nothing but gold management.
Its real strength shows up in builds with high Energy requirements that struggle to find passive Energy relics. In those decks, the extra Energy every turn can carry fights that would otherwise spiral out of control.

The main downside is economic. Since Gold drains constantly, you’ll have less to spend at The Merchant, which can lock you out of key Rare Relics or card removals later on.
How to manage the gold drain

The standard rule is to keep a Gold buffer of at least 100 before you pick up the Seal. That covers twenty turns of drain across multiple combats and gives you breathing room.
On Ascension 10, where you face back-to-back Act 3 Bosses, you need a larger cushion. A buffer of 200 Gold is the safe number to prevent the engine from failing during the final fight. If you enter Act 2 with a fat wallet and a build crying for energy, the Seal of Gold is an excellent payoff.
