Unlocking the Heat Tolerance Adaptation
You must continue clearing signals and interacting with blackboxes. The Heat Tolerance Adaptation comes after pressure tolerance and digestion, typically as the third mutation.
Eventually, you get a signal from the Wander Blackbox. It tasks you with crafting a Sonic Resonator and using it to destroy viral growths around a large pink Angel Comb flower.
Once the flower is cured, place your hand on it to receive the adaptation. The water turns orange with fiery sparks and a temperature gauge appears in the center of the screen.
Gold locations and bearings
Once adapted, head east from the Lifepod. Approximately 250 meters east-southeast you’ll reach the start of the volcanic vent area.
A major gold concentration sits on rocks around a crashed colony ship located exactly 450 meters east of the Lifepod.
Alternatively, navigate to Chap’s Blackbox and then head north-northeast to enter the lava region from a different angle.
How to harvest gold
Gold appears in three forms, each requiring a different tool:
