Slay the Spire 2: best Regent builds, cards, and relics

Harness the permanent Star resource and forge the Sovereign Blade to one-shot bosses—these are the optimal builds and relics for the Regent.

The Regent in Slay the Spire 2 is a methodical fighter who juggles two resources: Energy, which resets each turn, and Stars, a permanent pool you stockpile indefinitely.

Stars fuel his most powerful finishers and defensive walls, while his Forge mechanic builds a devastating Sovereign Blade that can one-shot bosses.

In this guide we’ll cover the best builds, essential cards, and relics to consistently win as the Heir to the Throne of Stars.

The Star System: your permanent resource

The Star System: your permanent resource

Stars never reset during combat. You generate them with cards like Glow, Gather Light, Hidden Cache, and Genesis, then spend them on turns where you can overwhelm the enemy.

Your starting relic Divine Right grants 3 Stars at the start of combat, giving you a small head start.

The payoff comes from cards like Stardust and Seven Stars for burst damage, or Particle Wall for massive Block. Meteor Shower stands out as the strongest AOE—2 Stars for 14 damage to all enemies and both Weak and Vulnerable.

Grabbing Child of the Stars early transforms your defense: it gives you Block every time you spend Stars, turning your entire engine into a sturdy shield.

The Forge mechanic and the Sovereign Blade

The Forge mechanic and the Sovereign Blade

Playing a card with the Forge keyword creates a Sovereign Blade in your hand—a 2-cost Colorless Attack that starts at 10 damage. Every subsequent Forge effect during the fight adds damage to all copies of that blade, no matter where they are.

Cards like Bulwark provide high block alongside a big Forge boost, while Furnace gives you free Forge every turn as a Power. Seeking Edge makes your Sovereign Blade hit all enemies, and Summon Forth retrieves the blade straight from your deck or discard pile.

This build deletes elite and boss encounters. With Heirloom Hammer you can duplicate the blade, and Sword Sage makes it hit twice—pushing single-strike damage past 100. Add Big Bang for zero-cost draw, energy, a Star, and Forge, and your scaling spirals out of control.

Best build archetypes

Best build archetypes

The Regent has three main avenues to victory.

  • Star Engine: Focuses on massive Star generation to fuel Radiate (AOE damage equal to Stars gained that turn) and Reflect (17 block and damage return). Core generators are Glow, Convergence, Genesis, and Hidden Cache. This archetype offers unmatched defense and AOE, scaling seamlessly into higher Ascensions. Keep your deck lean—10 to 15 cards—to cycle key spells constantly.

  • Sovereign Blade / Forge: Races to build one colossal finisher. The engine revolves around Bulwark, Furnace, and Seeking Edge, backed by Big Bang. Enchant Sovereign Blade with Royally Approved for Innate and Retain. Use Charge or GUARDS!!! to thin Strikes and Curses for faster combo draws.

  • Colorless / Card Creation: Turns junk into power. Supermassive scales damage with every card created during combat, Arsenal gives Strength when you play Colorless cards, and GUARDS!!! transforms your hand into Minion Sacrifice for block and deck thinning. Quasar and Manifest Authority feed the engine with extra Colorless picks.

Essential cards for the Regent

Essential cards for the Regent

These are the cards that define his strongest builds.

S-Tier
Big Bang: 0 Energy. Draw 1, gain 1 Energy, 1 Star, Forge 5. The single best enabler in his pool.
Meteor Shower (Ancient Reward): 2 Stars. Deals 14 damage to all enemies, applies 2 Weak and 2 Vulnerable. Unmatched AOE.
GUARDS!!!: Transforms any number of cards into Minion Sacrifice that gives 9–12 block. Perfect for thinning Strikes and statuses.
Sealed Throne (Ancient Reward): Whenever you play a card, gain 1 Star. Solves Star management for the entire fight.

A-Tier
Tyranny: At the start of your turn, draw 1 extra card and Exhaust 1. The best draw power.
Orbit: Every 4 Energy you spend, gain 1 Energy. Mandatory for expensive turns.
Bulwark: High block and Forge in one card. A staple in Forge builds.
Glow: The most efficient common Star generator that also draws cards.

Optimal relics

Optimal relics

These relics provide the biggest power spikes for the Regent.

  • Divine Destiny (Ancient Starter): Upgrades Divine Right to give 6 Stars at combat start. A massive tempo boost.
  • Fencing Manual: Grants Forge 10 at the start of every combat, instantly supercharging your blade.
  • Lunar Pastry: Gain 1 Star at the end of every turn. Passive generation that keeps pressure on.
  • Galactic Dust: For every 10 Stars spent, gain 10 Block. Perfect synergy with burst Star spending.
  • Vitruvian Minion: Cards containing “Minion” deal double damage and grant double Block. Transform strategies become lethal.
  • Orange Dough: Add 2 random Colorless cards to your hand at the start of each combat. Fuels all creation-based builds.

Once you’ve mastered the Regent’s star-forged combos, every other character in Slay the Spire 2 will test a different set of muscles. You’ll find full character guides, relic breakdowns, and Ascension strategies on Solo Jugadores.
