Creepvine didn’t make the jump to Proteus. Learn which plants drop Fibrous Pulp and how to avoid hours of fruitless searching.
The Creepvine Sample is a resource from the original Subnautica that many veteran survivors instinctively hunt for. In Subnautica 2, the planet Proteus has a completely different ecosystem—that iconic glowing kelp never made the jump.
Instead, the game replaces Creepvine with Fibrous Pulp, a material you shred from local plants using the Survival Multitool. Figuring this out early spares you hours of scanning empty seabeds for something that doesn’t exist.
In this guide we’ll cover exactly where to harvest Fibrous Pulp, which plants drop it, and every recipe that puts it to work.
The Creepvine replacement: Fibrous Pulp
Fibrous Pulp is the primary ingredient for textiles and early-game equipment in Subnautica 2. It fills the role that Creepvine Samples had on Planet 4546B—crafting Fiber, Fiber Mesh, and even certain consumables.
To collect it, you need the Survival Multitool, which costs 3x Titanium to craft. Aim the tool at specific plants and shred them; the pulp automatically adds to your inventory.
Where to find Fibrous Pulp plants
Three plant species on Proteus yield Fibrous Pulp. Head north from the Lifepod to find the densest clusters.
- Cradle Shootroot: Located about 100 meters north of the Lifepod, often near Lucifer Rotsacs. Shred these with the Survival Multitool to get pulp.
- Whip Gorgon: Anemone-like plants in the grassier areas directly surrounding the Lifepod. They’re easy to spot and shred quickly.
- Fresia: Another plant species that drops Fibrous Pulp when shredded. It appears in multiple shallow biomes.
Crafting with Fibrous Pulp
Once you’ve gathered enough pulp, the Fabricator and Processor turn it into survival gear and fuel.
- Fiber: 2x Fibrous Pulp.
- Fiber Mesh: 2x Fiber + 1x Strong Acid.
- Oily Salad: 2x Fibrous Pulp (restores food).
- Biofuel Block: 5x Fibrous Pulp (or other organic matter) processed in the Processor to power a Bioreactor.
Lucifer Rotsac: the new source of rubber
Creepvine Seed Clusters used to supply rubber, but on Proteus you’ll need Lucifer Rotsac.
This glowing organic sac is found inside Cradle Shootroot, roughly 100 meters north of the Lifepod. The distinct glow makes it easy to spot at night. Harvesting it yields Rubber and Grease for advanced equipment.
Once you lock down a steady pulp supply, power and mobility become the next bottleneck. Our full Bioreactor and base-building breakdown lives in the Subnautica 2 hub at Solo Jugadores.
