Most players overlook this wall-mounted module that provides unlimited water and pairs with the Thermos for body heat.
Dehydration on Proteus can end a run faster than any leviathan. Early-game water sources in Subnautica 2 are scarce and require constant foraging, but there’s a permanent, wall-mounted solution most players overlook.
The Coffee Vending Machine is a cheap interior module that produces unlimited Coffee Americano on demand. Pair it with a Thermos for body heat, and your base becomes a self-sustaining hydrating hub.
In this guide we’ll cover how to unlock the blueprint, build and use the machine, and combine it with a Thermos for cold biomes.
Unlocking the blueprint
You need to scan an existing Coffee Vending Machine with the Scanner to synthesize the blueprint. These machines are found at major colony sites and outposts.
Scan any of these locations:
- Architect Phase Gate Facility
- Delta Station
- Omega Lab
- Phi Robotics Center
- Outpost Zero
Once scanned, the blueprint appears in your Habitat Builder menu.
Construction requirements
The Coffee Vending Machine is an interior module, so it requires the Habitat Builder to place.
Materials are minimal:
- 2x Titanium
The unit mounts on a wall inside any Seabase compartment. It consumes no energy once built, making it completely free to operate forever.
How the coffee machine works
The machine runs on an automated brewing cycle. It can produce up to two cups of Coffee Americano at a time, and each full cycle takes exactly seventeen seconds.
Stand close to the machine when the cycle finishes—the coffee drops directly into your inventory. You’ll hear two distinct audio cues: “You look like you could use some coffee” when built, and “Coffee completed” when brewing is done.
There’s no limit on usage. You can brew cup after cup indefinitely.
Coffee Americano stats and survival effects
Each cup of Coffee Americano restores +4 water. A full two-cup cycle gives +8 water every 17 seconds.
Because it’s free and unlimited, it works as an emergency hydration source to prevent death from dehydration, especially early on when water is hard to come by. It also offsets the dehydrating side effects of eating Snacks.
Using the Thermos for body heat
For cold biomes, you’ll want the Thermos. Craft an empty Thermos at the Fabricator using Titanium and Glass.
Place the empty Thermos into the Coffee Vending Machine to fill it with hot coffee. Consuming that coffee grants +50 body heat but imposes a -2 water penalty.
The empty Thermos stays in your inventory afterward and can be refilled at the machine as many times as you need.
Strategic tips for base hydration
While Coffee Americano isn’t the most space-efficient water source per cup, its wall-mounted nature and zero operational cost make it ideal for long-term Seabase stays. In an emergency, you can build multiple machines and use them in sequence to rapidly refill your water meter—a lifesaver if you’re critically dehydrated.
Pairing a couple of machines with a Fabricator and locker nearby turns your base into a fast refueling station for water and heat.
Once your coffee supply is automated, you’ll want to lock down oxygen, power, and food production. The rest of our Subnautica 2 base-building guides are in Solo Jugadores, including water filtration setups and habitat optimization.
