Silver rarely shows up where you’d expect it in Subnautica 2. The shallow caves around the Lifepod have plenty of Titanium and Copper, but Silver appears only past 30 meters deep—and you need it right away for the Standard Air Tank and almost every electronic component.
Missing Silver means no extra oxygen and no wiring kits, so your early progression stalls hard.
In this guide we’ll cover how to identify and harvest Silver, the exact spots that give you the most ore for your time, and every recipe that consumes it.
Visual identification and how to harvest
Silver ore appears as silver-gray clusters with a noticeably pointier shape than the smoother Titanium and Lead deposits. Look for these on cave walls, ceilings, or as tiny chunks on the floor deeper than 30 meters.
There are three node sizes:
- Tiny silver nodes: Collect them immediately by hand.
- Medium nodes: Punch them roughly four times with bare hands to get 2–3 pieces.
- Large veins: You need a Sonic Resonator to crack them open.
Best locations to find silver
Silver spawns at depths of 30 meters or deeper, always on the walls and ceilings of caves or as tiny floor chunks. These four biomes are your go-to sources:
- Old Habitat: About 400 meters north of the Lifepod, the caves around the ruins are loaded with Silver.
- Coral Fields: Northeast of the Lifepod, southeast of the Digestion Angel Comb. Flat terrain, beginner-friendly, with Copper and Titanium mixed in.
- Camp One: Roughly 250 meters north and a little west. Silver is concentrated in the north side, but aggressive Marrowbreathers patrol the area.
- Alien Ruins: Over 1,000 meters east of the Lifepod. The deepest region holds the densest Silver deposits.
Detailed silver farming spots
These are the three most efficient spots you’ll want to prioritize.
- Jelly Lei Cave (best early game):
- Head 200 meters straight north from the Lifepod.
- Look for a tiny cave that goes directly downward.
- The entrance sits under an overhang with purple Jelly Lei draped over it.

Old Habitat Cave (best starting region):
- Travel 400 meters north of the Lifepod to the Old Habitat.
- Find the large cave entrance on the right side of the ruins.
- Follow the glowing green plants deeper into the cave.

In the deepest section, where bright blue bulbs protrude from the ground, Silver covers the walls and ceiling.

Ultimate late-game spot (Alien Ruins):
- Move over 1,000 meters east of the Lifepod to the Alien Ruins.
- Head into deeper water east to find the Angel Comb that grants the Axum Vision Adaptation.
- Follow the Angel Comb’s roots through the trench to the northeast.
- When the trench opens into open water, look east for a cave just past Celestine and Conduit Crystals—packed with Silver nodes.
A Tadpole and specific upgrades are required here to deal with the Collector Leviathan.
What silver is used for
You can use Silver raw or process it into ingots. First, craft a Processor from Titanium, Copper Wire, and Mild Acid.
- Silver ingot: 3x Silver, processing time 1 minute.
- Germanium ingot: 2x Silver (or Lead), processing time 2 minutes.
Key recipes that eat your Silver:
- Standard Air Tank: 2x Titanium, 1x Rubber, 2x Silver.
- Wiring Kit: 1x Silver, 1x Copper.
- Hydroelectric Turbine: 3x Titanium, 3x Copper, 3x Silver.
