Learn how Winged Boots’ three charges can unlock Elites, shops, and events you’d otherwise miss – and when it’s better to skip.
The Winged Boots is an Ancient Relic in Slay the Spire 2 that lets you ignore map connections and jump to any room for three total uses. You get it exclusively from Neow at the start of a run, and once the charges are gone, it’s useless.
Three free pathing choices can unlock Elite clusters, Rest Sites, shops, and key events your route would miss. But the relic is controversial: many runs don’t need it, and picking it means skipping stronger rewards.
In this guide we’ll cover how Winged Boots works, its strategic synergies, mechanical limits, and when it’s worth grabbing over other Neow bonuses.
How Winged Boots works and how to get it
Winged Boots is an Ancient Relic offered only by Neow at the beginning of a run. It doesn’t appear in chests or as combat rewards.
The relic has three charges. When you pick a map location, you can select any room on the next floor, even if it’s not connected to your current spot. After using all three charges, the relic grays out and becomes unusable for the rest of the run.
Mechanical restrictions and conflicts
Winged Boots cannot spawn or appear beyond floor 40, except in Endless mode. This means you won’t find it after the mid-game.
In Custom Mode, several modifiers remove Winged Boots from the relic pool entirely. The Flight modifier gives infinite pathing charges, making Winged Boots redundant. The Certain Future modifier forces the map into a single linear path, so the relic has no effect.
The effect is map-only: during combat, Winged Boots offers no help. For example, fighting the Kaiser Crab, its Hellraiser power might reposition you, but Winged Boots won’t mitigate that.
Strategic synergies
Winged Boots shines when you use it to maximize relic and deck synergies by jumping to rooms you’d otherwise miss.
- Elite hunting: Use charges to cross paths and fight more Elites. Pairs well with Black Star (extra relic drops), Preserved Insect (weaker Act 1 and Act 2 Elites), and Slaver’s Collar (bonus energy in Elite combats).
- Rest Sites: Hop to a route with more Rest Sites to upgrade cards. With Meat Cleaver, you can access more sites to Cook, removing cards and gaining Max HP.
- Merchant visits: If you’ve stacked Gold via Old Coin or Signet Ring but lack a shop, a charge gets you to a Merchant.
- Event rooms: Target specific events in Unknown rooms, like History Course or curse removal encounters.
Is Winged Boots worth taking?
Picking Winged Boots is a speculative choice. You might not encounter a map layout where jumping paths matters all run. Other Neow rewards like Large Capsule (two random relics) or Max HP bonuses provide immediate, guaranteed value for Act 1 survival.
The relic truly excels when you see a map with Elites or Rest Sites clustered on one side. Clear that side normally, then use a charge to fly over to the other cluster and continue snowballing. On those seeds, Winged Boots turns a good run into a dominant one.
Now that you understand Winged Boots’ risk-reward profile, you can make smarter Neow choices. For more pathing and relic breakdowns, check out the rest of our Slay the Spire 2 coverage. Solo Jugadores has every corner of the Spire mapped.
